Product Certification Listings

All products produced by Vermont Castings, Majestic Products are tested, design certified and listed under the applicable national safety and efficiency requirements for both the United States and Canada and where required, our products also comply with most state and municipal codes.

Gas Fired Products

All gas-fired hearth products are tested and design certified by CSA International to the current applicable editions of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the current applicable Canadian standards and in some instances to European standards (CE certified). A few years ago, CSA International, a leading safety testing agency with offices world-wide, assumed control of International Approval Services (IAS). IAS had been the result of the previous merging of the American and Canadian Gas Association's (AGA and CGA) product testing and certification divisions. Therefore, many of our gas-fired hearth products may carry the approval labels for AGA, CGA, IAS or CSA and these approval markings may be considered one and the same.

Additional state and municipal approvals, as required, have been obtained from the California Energy Commission (CEC), The Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and New York City (MEA).

In the United States, all heater rated gas hearth products are also tested by ETL Laboratories to efficiency standards set by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to establish compliance with the established minimum annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE). The results of these tests and AFUE ratings are published by the Gas Appliance Manufacturer's Association (GAMA).

In Canada, all gas hearth products have been tested to CSA P.4.1-02, as required by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) to obtain an "EnerGuide" Fireplace Efficiency (FE) rating. The FE ratings for each appliance are reported to NRCAN and will soon appear on all applicable product literature. The method of determining an FE rating is similar to the methods established by the U.S. DOE to determine AFUE ratings and both test programs are designed to determine the overall energy consumption of a particular product, through an entire heating season.
